What do I have to do before leaving Stuttgart?

De-registration at the citizen office

A few days before leaving Stuttgart, please go to your local or the central citizen office (Bürgerbüro) and de-register.

(Bürgerbüro /Bürgeramt)

Anyone who moves out of an apartment and does not move into a new apartment in Germany must deregister with the citizen office ("Bürgerbüro", Abmeldung Wohnsitz) within two weeks of moving out.

Deregistration is possible at the earliest one week before moving out.

If you reside in Stuttgart >> Bürgerbüro Stuttgart:

For deregistration, the  deregistration form PDF-File 182,92 kB must be filled in and signed.

Deregistration can be done in writing (also by e-mail with scanned signed form as PDF document) or in person at a citizens’ office (non-German citizen can not do it online!).

Further information: http://www.stuttgart.de/organigramm/leistungen/wohnsitz-abmelden.php

If you reside in Esslingen >> Bürgeramt Esslingen:

For deregistration, please get the deregistration form (in paper, there is no download unfortunately) at the Bürgeramt Esslingen, fill in your details and sign it.
