Information for Exchange Students

LECTURE PERIOD CALENDAR (2024/2025)

→ The compulsory online Intensive German courses always start 4 weeks before the start of the semester.

→ The Welcome Reception for exchange students (mandatory) takes place on Sept. 25th 2026.

TEACHING LANGUAGE

Our official teaching language is German.

Some courses in the Bachelor's and/or Master's degree programmes in 

  • Architecture
  • Interior Architecture
  • Business Management
  • General Management

are taught in English.

All courses in the following Master's degree programmes are taught in Englisch:

  • Software Technology
  • Photogrammetry & Geoinformatics
  • International Master of Interior Architectural Design (IMIAD)

All courses in our International Study Programme (ISP) are taught in Englisch.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Courses conducted in English in our Business School:

  • B2 Common European Framework of Reference
  • score of at least 80 TOEFL-iBT
  • overall band score of at least 6 IELTS (with a minimum band score of 6.0 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in reading and listening)

For courses in the Bachelor's and/or Master's degree programmes in Civil Engineering, Surveying and Mathamatics that are conducted in German

 

German A1 →

Attendance of German language course is required for all courses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Architecture, Interior Architecture and General Management (We offer A1 as an intensive class in prior to each semester)

GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSES

We offer four-week German Intensive courses prior to each semester as well as a wide range of German courses during the semester. All exchange students are required to attend at least one German language course.

FOOD

A cafeteria (Studierendenwerk Stuttgart) serving snacks and small hot meals is located in the main building.
The main student dining hall serves lunch from Monday to Friday.

LIVING EXPENSES

In general, students will need about 1.000 € monthly to cover their living expenses:

  • rent: approx. 310 € to 385 € per month
  • health insurance: approx. 150 € per month
  • public transportation: approx. 65€ per month
  • food: approx. 180 € per month
  • miscellaneous: approx. 150 € per month

The International Office offers scholarships and financial support opportunities for incoming exchange students of partner universities (= Scholarship of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation, as well as Rent Subsidy of the Robert Breuning Foundation for students who live in a student dormitory of Studierendenwerk Stuttgart). PROOF OF FINANCIAL MEANS

As an international student, you need a visa and proof of sufficient funds. The visa process can take several months, so we recommend applying for a visa in good time. You can usually make an appointment to apply for a visa before you receive your admission letter. But you will definitely need your admission letter at the appointment.
