The following scholarships are awarded by the International Office:


Baden-Württemberg Scholarship

The Baden-Württemberg scholarship supports the international exchange of highly qualified foreign students between universities in Baden-Württemberg and universities outside the ERASMUS area. In addition to a study or research stay, the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM offers scholarship holders the opportunity to mature in their personal development and competence through intercultural experiences and to develop sensitivity and appreciation towards other cultures as part of the "regional development policy component (REK)".

Application deadline:

January 15th for the following summer semester

August 15th for the following winter semester

What requirements must be met?

  1. You are an exchange student from a partner university of HFT Stuttgart OR you are an international direct student of HFT Stuttgart from an LDC (please check carefully, f.ex. India is not a LDC). If you have already completed a Bachelor's degree, this must have been in the LDC (if the Bachelor degree has beend completed an a non-LDC you are not eligible unfortunately).
  2. You do not receive any other scholarship or other financial support from your home university (e.g. ERASMUS), your home country or from Germany (e.g. DAAD, Deutschlandstipendium, BaföG)
  3. You are not in a leave semester.

How do I apply?

  2. for exchange students: current transcript of records from your home university (and from the HFT Stuttgart if applicable)
  3. for international HFT students, from LDCs: current transcript of records from the HFT Stuttgart  (students in their 1st Master's semester can submit their Bachelor's grades in English from their home country)

What happens after the application?

  1. The International Office and the programme coordinators carry out the pre-selection of applicants (=nomination).
  2. Nominated applicants receive then log-in data for the online application from the International Office. This applicant information is then sent to the central scholarship committee. Please note! Please do not apply directly to the BW Foundation without nomination of the International Office, otherwise you will automatically not receive a scholarship.
  3. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation makes the final decision on the awarding of scholarships. Further information on the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM can be found at www.bw-stipendium.de.
  4. By accepting the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, you also confirm that you will not receive any other scholarship for your studies during the scholarship period.

Rent Subsidy (Mietzuschuss) from the Robert Breuning Stiftung

In agreement with the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and the Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, the Robert Breuning Foundation awards rent subsidies to international students of HFT Stuttgart who are accommodated in the dormitories of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

The rent subsidy is about 150 € per month for the supported period of maximum one semester.

It can be awarded

  • for bachelor students: until the 8th enrollment semester,
  • for master students: until the 5th enrollment semester.

Application Period/ Deadline:

December 1st - January 15th for the summer semester

June 1st - July 15th for the winter semester (extended to 10th August for winter 25/26)

Requirements:

  1. You are a regular international student or an exchange student from a partner university of HFT Stuttgart.
  2. You live in the student dormitory of the Studierendenwerk in Stuttgart.
  3. You can proof an extracurricular and/or special commitment/ engagement at/to HFT Stuttgart
    1. such as activity in the buddy program of your study program or of the International Office, cooperation in international activities/events (e.g. cultural evening, coffee break), special activities in your study program, such as semester speaker, tutoring activity, etc..
    2. please note: just taking part is not sufficient, it is expected that you've actually contributed/helped to organize and/or implement the event/activity or actively been involved as a buddy
    3. the commitment/engagement has to be finished - just signing up for being a buddy the upcoming semester is not sufficient
    4. Important: the commitment/ engagement in activities needs to be proven with the application
  4. You are not in a leave semester

The following scholarships are only for regular international HFT-Degree-Seeking-students (Bachelor and Master):


DAAD Scholarships: Graduation Scholarship & Scholarship for commited students

The International Office annually raises scholarship funds from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which can be awarded to international students of the HFT Stuttgart.

On the one hand, the aim is to enable qualified international students to concentrate on their final thesis through a Graduation Scholarship ("Studienabschlussstipendium"). On the other hand, the Scholarship for Particularly Committed Students (Stipendium für besonders engagierte Studierende) is intended to improve support for international students.

The DAAD scholarship usually is 3 months à 350€ (1.050€ in total).

Application Period/ Deadline:

January 1st - February 15th for the following summer semester

July 1st - August 15th for the following winter semester

Requirements:

  1. You are a regular international degree seeking student at HFT Stuttgart
  2. Your are in your 2nd semester at HFT or higher.
  3. You have at least good academic achievements.
  4. Scholarship for committed international students: You are distinguished by your outstanding commitment to supporting international students at HFT Stuttgart and you can hand in an official prove (e.g. official attestation, official certificate etc.)
    1. f.ex. engagement in the buddy program of your study program or of the International Office, cooperation in international activities/events (e.g. cultural evening, coffee break), special activities in your study program, such as semester speaker, tutoring activity, etc..
    2. please note: just taking part is not sufficient, it is expected that you've actually contributed/helped to organize and/or implement the event/activity or actively been involved as a buddy
    3. the commitment/engagement has to be finished - just signing up for being a buddy the upcoming semester is not sufficient
    4. Important: the commitment/ engagement in activities needs to be proven with the application

          Graduation scholarship: You will complete your studies within the next, upcoming semester.

       4. You don't have a German citizenship.

       5. You are enroled during the entire funding period.

       6. You are not in a leave semester.

Only signing up for the buddy program of the IO will not be sufficient!
    Graduation scholarship: Registration of the final thesis and rough time schedule of the thesis

DAAD Scholarship: Scholarship for Enhanced Equal Opportunities (only in summer semester 2025)

In 2025, in addition to the Graduation Scholarship and Scholarship for commited Students, the International Office plans to offer a Scholarship for Enhanced Equal Opportunities (funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)) for students with special challenges in their studies (e.g. refugees, people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, people with special care situations for children or relatives in need of care).

The DAAD scholarship will be 3 months à 350€ (1.050€ in total).

Application Period/ Deadline 2025:

January 21st - February 23th 2025 for the following summer semester

Requirements:

  1. You are a regular international degree seeking student at HFT Stuttgart with special challenges during their studies (at least one of the following must be fulfilled!):
    1. Refugee background

    2. Degree of disability of at least 50% 

    3. Chronic illness

    4. Caring for underage child/children in their own household (especially single parents)

    5. Caring for 1st and 2nd degree relatives

  2. You don't have a German citizenship.
  3. Your are enroled during the entire funding period.
  4. You are not on a leave semester.

Refugee Background: Proof of (application for) asylum or other proof/documentation of refugee status; copy of current residence status; for refugees from third countries: copy of the last residence permit or other official proof from the country from which you fled; It is essential that your refugee status is clearly evident

    2. Disability (min. 50%): Proof of a degree of disability of at least 50% (severely disabled person's pass/id) or or a medical certificate confirming the disability

    3. Chronic Illnes: Medical certificate of chronic illness with a description of the associated restrictions

    4. Caring for underage child/children in their own household: Birth certificate(s) of child/children

    5. Caring for 1st and 2nd degree relatives: Proof of the person(s) in need of care: Registration certificate showing the address of the person in need of care; birth certificate showing the relationship

DAAD Prize

Every year, HFT Stuttgart awards the DAAD Prize to an international student who has distinguished themselves through special academic achievements and social or intercultural commitment. This award "is intended to help put faces to the large numbers of international students at German universities and connect them with stories." (German Academic Exchange Service).

The DAAD prize is 1.000€ in total.

Who can receive the award?

International students,

  • who are pursuing a degree at the HFT (no exchange students).
  • who are at least in the 4th semester of a Bachelor's degree course or the 2nd semester of a Master's degree course.
  • who have outstanding academic achievements.
  • who are socially or (inter)culturally engaged.

Candidates are nominated by the degree programmes and the final winner is selected at the prizewinners' meeting (September/October). It is not possible to apply directly for the prize but you can make yourself known to your professors as a possible candidate for the prize if you meet the requirements.
